Rescuing Hope: How VOGAfrica is Fighting Child Labor in Uganda

In the bustling streets of Kampala, 12-year-old David* spent his days selling water bottles to passing cars. Forced to drop out of school after his father’s death, David became the sole breadwinner for his family. “I hated it,” he says. “I wanted to go back to school, but we needed the money.”

David’s story is not unique. Across Uganda, thousands of children are forced into labor due to poverty, lack of education, and exploitation. But VOGAfrica is working to change that.

Through our child protection programs, we rescued David from the streets and enrolled him in school. We also provided his family with financial support and counseling to ensure he wouldn’t have to return to work. Today, David is back in the classroom, dreaming of becoming a teacher. “I want to help other children like me,” he says.

Our campaigns against child labor have reached over 10,000 community members, raising awareness and advocating for stronger protections for children. But there is still much work to be done.

Every child deserves a chance to learn, grow, and dream. Join us in protecting children’s rights and ending child labor. Support Our Work or Learn More About Our Programs.
